WP Smush.it Triggers A Window Live Writer Error
Two days ago, using Windows Live Writer 2009, I uploaded/scheduled all my posts for the next two months and towards the end with one of the posts, I kept getting this error message: “Invalid Server Response: The response to the metaWeblog.newMediaObject method received from the blog server was invalid: Invalid response document returned from XmlRpc server.”

I was quick to notice that unlike the previous posts this post had images so I did a test by removing the images and trying again and it posted without showing the error message.
Thank God, I was able to think towards a possible plug-in causing the problem and I remembered I had WP Smush-it installed. I simply logged into my dashboard, deactivated the plug-in and tried the post again with the images and it posted fine without the error.
All Windows Live Writer 2009 users please take note.
I’m off to work again. Sucks been on call for 48hrs @ a go. Can’t wait to round up my internship.
Have a nice weekend y’all.
P.S: To be sure Wp Smush.it was the problem, I reactivated the plug-in and tried posting a copy of the post that triggered the error before and there it was, the same ol’ error message. With this I’m 99% certain, Wp Smush.it is the cause of the error.

Hi Udegbunam,
Thanks for blogging about this. I’ve just released a new version of WP Smush.it that fixes this problem.
Let me know if you have any further issues with the plugin.
Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be reinstalling the plug-in again using the new version. Have a nice day
Hey there thanks for writing the post. I had the same error the only difference was that mine didn’t have to do with a plugin related issue. It was just that I had copied pasted the images from Snag It editor straight to Live Writer. But once i removed the pasted images it work alright
Thanks again.
@Aronil: You’re most welcome. I’m TOTALLY familiar with your issues with copy and pasted images. I had the same problem some time back and had to remove the pasted images to get things working again. This time around I discovered this wasn’t the issue as after removing the images, I was still getting the errors. Deactivating WP-Smush It was the ULTIMATE solution.
P.S: They acknowledged this problem and have fixed it.
Oooh one of the few plugins that makes me shudder. While most people seem to have a great time with this one, it badly corrupted over a third of my blog images in a non-repairable way! Bad bad behavior. I’m fairly certain it was conflicting with something else, but by the time I realized it the damage was done and I was left restoring my images from backup.
One of the recent things that I noticed is that, it even increases the size of images I had compressed prior to adding them to my blog post. The plug-in needs some serious work. Sorry about the damages it cost you. I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes.
Yeah that’s definitely the case! It’s a little goofy yet. Oh well, it’ll come with time, that’s the good/bad of open source communities!
