Sometime ago I posted The Safest Way Of Upgrading All Wordpress Blogs but ever since, I’ve discovered a faster way of getting the upgrade process done is 30 minutes.
This method simply relies on the unzip feature of Net2Ftp. It basically involves uploading your wordpress installation as a zip file then uninstalling it automatically on the server into different folders.
DISCLAIMER This tutorial is provided as it is. I shall not be held responsible in any way should you encounter problems like loss of database and entire blog/website along the way. Use this at your own discretion. It worked EXCELLENTLY well for me and should do the same for you hopefully!
Step 1
Download the latest Version of Wordpress and WinRar.
Step 2
Install WinRar. Afterwards right click on the latest wordpress file you just downloaded, select Winrar then Extract files. This automatically unzips all files into a wordpress folder.
Step 3
Browse the wordpress folder created above and DELETE the wp-content folder as you wouldn’t be needing it.
Step 4
Select ALL the files in the wordpress folder, right click on the selection then go to Winrar. Under WinRar submenu, select Add to archive and in the window that opens under Archive Format select Zip and click okay.
Step 5
Upload the zip file to the root folder of your wordpress installation. In my case it’s the blog folder.
Step 6
Execute Step 1 to Step 5 of the blog post The Safest Way Of Upgrading All Wordpress Blogs.
Step 7
Log unto Net2ftp fill in your ftp details as shown below and log in automatically. Only fill in your FTP server, Username & Password then press Login.

When you’re successfully logged in, navigate to the folder that contains the zip file you uploaded in Step 5 above.
Select this zip file by ticking the radio button beside it to the left. Afterwards select UNZIP from the menu above as shown below.

In the next window you’d be prompted to confirm your actions which you should do.
Depending on the speed of your internet connection, it shouldn’t take more than 90 seconds for the whole unzip process to conclude. In my case it took up to 10 minutes and I also got a message that the process had exceeded the 90 second limit for all processes.
Note: Despite this warning message of having passed the 90 seconds processing limit, Net2Ftp successfully unzipped all the files properly.
Step 8
Complete steps 7 and 8 of The Safest Way Of Upgrading All Wordpress Blogs.
So there you have it. Another way of upgrading your wordpress blog in 20 minutes. Feel free to comment below about your wordpress update experience.
Update: As @ the last time I updated my wordpress blog, this method seemed not to work. I think that was due to the slow internet connection that day. I've arranged to have the Net2ftp software installed on my site soon. Cheers.
