Top 5 Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Blog

Posted by Udegbunam Chukwudi Under Blogging Tips On April 25, 2009 19 COMMENTS

Traffic generation is one difficult thing to achieve sometimes and so many “gurus’ have written many a method of generating traffic but some of them are true classics that never fail.

  1. Create frequent high quality content that is rich in keywords and phrases. The keyword richness keeps the search engines loving your blog long time while the frequent high quality content keeps your readers coming back for more. Frequency should not be more than once in 3 days, if you’ve got the time.
  2. Optimize the titles of your blog posts for search engines. Make sure to use your keywords in them. All these fall under Search Engine Optimization of your site. For quality SEO tips go to DailySEOBlog. Mani Karthik Rocks!
  3. Create RSS feeds for your blogs and make it easy for your readers to subscribe to them. That way when they subscribe with their RSS readers, they’ll be getting excerpts of your recent blog posts which will make them navigate back to your site to read the complete posts on your blogs.
  4. As Atomic Blogger, Alvin Phang suggested, once your blog posts have been indexed by Google, convert them to articles and submit them to article directories like Ezinearticles.com. Supposedly since the article was first indexed on your site and not the article directory, you won’t face duplicate content issues.
  5. Finally use Social Bookmarking sites, to promote your blog posts. Once this post rise to the top of pages like Digg.com, a massive flow of traffic can be expected.

Hope my top five ways of generating traffic sees you getting the traffic you deserve soon enough.

  6. Rod from British Lions tour 2009 says:

It’s important to pursue good quality traffic, rather than just going for quantity. For instance, traffic exchange programs like entrecard are supposed to be easy ways to get traffic, but it tends to be drive-by traffic. On the other hand it’s a lot harder to get loads of search engine traffic, but it tends to be people actually looking for what you’re offering.

  7. Matt from Website Promotion Lessons says:

Yes, I have found that blog titles are very important. The more specific the keywords you use for them, the better.

For instance, on one of my blogs I wrote a post about drag and drop sites Weebly, Webnode and Synthasite (now Yola). I put all these names in the blog title. I was quite lucky that there were a few people typing all these keywords in together in their searches. Yet very few other bloggers had included them all in titles. So even though my blog was very new, I managed to end up on page one for such searches, and got some hits as a result.

  8. @Matt From Website Promotion Lessons: At the moment I’m paying much more attention at keywords in blog post titles after reading Keyword Crash Course Ebook by Courtney Tuttle. You can get it here http://courtneytuttle.com/2007/02/25/starting-a-blog-in-5263-words/. Just scroll down a bit and fill in your email address to be automatically redirected to the download page.
    It’s quite a read I must confess.

  9. Chris from Hottest TV Shows & TV Stars says:

There are also some great plugins and mods for the various blog software types that offer SEO benefits, such as inserting alt tags to images, and adding keywords based on the posts, etc. Just learning how to use keywords in your post without it sounding mechanical is a huge help.

  10. Tom Doyle says:

Simple and effective steps that so many web publishers overlook.

Some people are always looking at the difficult things rather than sitting back and looking at the simple things.

  14. Rajul from London Hotels Insight says:

Thank you so much for your common-sense, succinct summary. I agree that the blog post title is key and I also love your idea of converting old blog entries to articles. Your general approach seems to be to favour quality over quantity and I think this is especially critical if you are in a super-competitive category as my blog is (and I assume yours too!). Keep up the good work.

  15. Your tips on promoting a blog was quite educative.

  16. Sarah from barcodeinfo says:

What are Social Bookmarking sites? And why is submitting your posts to Ezinearticle so important? I didn’t understand that part. Also, are keywords relevant? I tend to have heaps of keywords but I don’t know how much they help. Your tip about putting keywords in the title was useful, I didn’t know that title words ranked higher than content words.
Sarah@barcodeinfo hopes you will read…Do I need a barcode to sell my product in shops?

    • Cos Ezinearticles has got a high page rank and is trusted by Google. Also the links back to your site from Ezinearticles are all dofollow. I must confess though that they do take a long time to review and accept articles which is why I quit wasting my precious time with them ;(
