This blog post was inspired by Extreme John’s 16 Reasons Commenting On Your Blog Sucks! As bloggers it’s imperative that we help out other bloggers with comments and the likes especially when they leave comments on our blogs.
Without further ado, here are my 5 top reasons why I MIGHT not comment on your blog.
- Your blog is hosted by Blogger, has the Captcha thing activated and has no option for Name and URL: Blogger can be such as a time waster. The whole logging in process so I can comment using my Google account drives me nuts. When I’m then through with logging in, I’m then asked to fill in a captcha to let my comments through. When blogger blogs are missing the Name / URL option, it means that my comments will not drive a lil’ bit of traffic to my site no matter how good they are.
- I keep getting the white/blank page EVERYTIME I leave a comment: I keep getting such on some blogs and after 3 –5 trials at submitting a comment and still no luck, I delete the blog from my feed reader. Please note that the white page thingy is a common phenomenon on wordpress blogs BUT when it persistently keeps rearing it’s ugly head, potential commentators are driven away. - Your content doesn’t peak my interest @ all: I’m a huge activist for “IF YOU AIN’T GOT NOTHING REASONABLE TO SAY/CONTRIBUTE, JUST ZIP IT!” Some folks have been kind enough to leave wonderful comments on my blog and when I seek to return the favor I can’t because their blog is either in a TOTALLY DIFFERENT niche of which I have no interest whatsoever or the content has been OVER-REHASHED!
- Your content is delivered via short RSS Feed: Believe me you, there are folks who aren’t connected to the internet 24/7 and are still on limited bandwidth plans. We make use of Offline RSS Readers each time we want to read our favorite blogs. Most times, I simply connect to the internet and have the Firefox add-on, NewsFox update all my feeds then I disconnect to save my bandwidth and read offline. Some peeps say short RSS feeds is the way to go as it keeps your readers coming back to your blog thus keeping your traffic stats up. They even go as far as saying you wouldn’t get comments if you offer short RSS feeds. Well I beg to differ. In my case if your content is quite captivating and prompts me to say something, I’ll take time out to find that post on your blog and leave my comment. That said, the only short RSS feed blogs I leave comments on are DOFOLLOW blogs cos I’m getting rewarded for all my troubles
. - Last but not the least is the issue of loading time: Some blogs take forever to load cos their themes are just too heavy or their servers are quite slow. If you own a wordpress blog, do yourself the favor of installing a cache plug-in like Hyper-Cache or Wp-SuperCache. If you run a blogger blog, try Optimizing CSS & Speed Up Blogger Blog Load Time!. Using a lightweight theme also goes a long way to speeding things up!

P.S: Should in case you want to know, my blog is a dofollow blog though it has been stripped of it’s PR2 and is now a PR1 according to the Google Toolbar

I've been getting a lot of those blank pages after trying to write a comment, they are really annoying: I never know if my comment has gotten through or not, and it's difficult to contact the blogger to tell them about the problem (I can't post a comment to them, but I suppose I could email them if there is an email address somewhere on their site - I've never looked).
One way of knowing if your comments went through is pressing the back button and resubmitting the same comment again. If you get DUPLICATE CONTENT. YOU'VE ALREADY SAID THAT, it means your comment went through
Yes! What the heck is up with Blogger/Livejournal/Whatever bloggers who only allow comments by people who have accounts? Why would you want to weed out comments from people whose only failing is that they can afford a domain name and web hosting?
Oddly enough those blogs rarely have many comments... hm!

Tell me about it. You ask for comments yet you force your readers to register and log-in before being able to comment. In my own experience, funny enough some of these blogs do get loads of comments though it depends on the niche of the blog.
It is really annoying and time consuming especially those with blogs that have their comments off. They just want those who are logged in to do some comments. Why then did they post or put up some blogs if they do not want people to comment.
