Top 15 Wordpress Plug-ins @ StrictlyOnlineBiz

Posted by Udegbunam Chukwudi Under Wordpress Plug-ins On May 16, 2009 12 COMMENTS

There’s nothing like having amazing plug-ins that help make blogging an exhilarating experience for bloggers.

Without the right tools, your days as a blogger could be numbered by certain factors. Below I’ve compiled my top 15 Wordpress plug-ins without which I’d be lost. Feel free to implement them on your own blog, if you haven’t done so

  1. Akismet: Keeps spam comments under control though it could sometime get over-zealous and grab legit comments too. LOL.
  2. All In One SEO Pack: The simplest plug-in to help you with metatags on your wordpress blog. If you want your posts to be seen in search engine results, you’re highly advised to get this.
  3. Comment Luv: What more can I say about it? Read my post Increase Your Backlinks with Comment Luv.
  4. Contact Form 7: This plug-in manages my contact page beautifully well and gets my readers emails delivered successfully to my inbox all the time.
  5. Really Simple CAPTCHA: Helps keep spammers from using your contact form. Works hand in hand with Contact Form 7.
  6. Google XML Sitemaps: If you’re looking at getting indexed by the search engines frequently, your blog needs an automated sitemap creator. Just as you ping web services with Pingomatic each time you leave a new post on your blog, Google XML Sitemaps automatically rebuilds your sitemap after each new post and sutomatically pings the search engines like Google, Ask, Yahoo and MSN.
  7. Keyword Luv: Reward your commentators by separating their name from their keywords, in the link to their website, giving them improved anchor text. Keyword Luv Rocks.
  8. NoFollow Free: Most people are looking for something in return for posting comments and you can do just that by stripping the NoFollow attribute from your comments with this plug-in. Your blog can be made comments and backlink friendly with this plug-in.
  9. Psychic Search: Logs all searches made on your blog thereby letting you know what your readers might be interested in reading about. It does a good job of logging searches within your blog and searches from search engines.
  10. Share This: Let your visitors share a post/page with others. Supports e-mail and posting to social bookmarking sites. A true classic.
  11. Ultimate Plugins Smart Update Pinger: Saves you the pain of being labeled a spammer by pinging services. Replaces the built-in ping/notify functionality. Pings only when publishing new or future posts, not when editing.
  12. Wass Up:Helps to analyze your visitors traffic with real time stats, chart and a lot of chronological information. It has sidebar Widget support to show current online visitors and other statistics.
  13. WordPress Database Backup: Forget about the other 14 plug-in, if you haven’t got this plug-in then you’ve got nothing at all. This plug-in provides on-demand backup of your WordPress database should in case something should go wrong with your blog. I personally created a Gmail account for it and had it configured to backup my database EVERYDAY and email the backup to my specially created Gmail account.
  14. WP Google Analytics: For those of you who don’t have Advanced Web Statistics (Awstats) installed on your server, you could make use of this plug-in to add the Google Analytics code to your blogs and monitor your traffic.
  15. Yet Another Related Posts Plug-in: Returns a list of the related entries based on a unique algorithm using titles, post bodies, tags, and categories. It now comes with RSS feed support!

That’s all folks. What amazing plug-ins do you implement on your wordpress blog? Let us know.

  1. Well.. probably most used and most needed plugins for wordpress blog.

  2. Thanks. Worth bookmarked and digg

  3. Dan from Promoting your Blog says:

That is a solid list of plugins. I am using most of them on my blog as well. I did discover a new one thanks to you, I never heard of Psychic search until now. I will check it out it seemsworthwhile.

  4. I dislike Akismet, because, just like you said, sometimes it is too zealous :)

Other plug-ins are very useful, even sometimetimes it is very hard to install them. For example, I had lot of problems before I successfully installed Contact Form 7. Fortunately, they are many other contact forms.

  5. Sugar says:

I am looking for some real time plug ins for Wordpress. Need something like Live Forex Quotes. If you know where I can find them, please reply!

    Thanks! Kiss! :)

  6. @ Artist with Lord title: I wouldn’t advice you to deactivate Akismet. Just let it be. Personally akismet doesn’t really do much for me know as adding SI CAPTCHA to my comment form has reduced spam on my blog to 99%.

@ Sugar: If I come across something like that I’ll let you know. In the mean time I suggest you google it. You never can tell what you may find. Check out Stock quotes plugin here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wikinvest-stock-quotes/

  7. Florian from Free XML Sitemap Generator says:

The sitemap needs to be submitted to search engines as well via the ping url.

  8. Great list, I think Akismet is the most used plug-in by users, and thanks for the other very useful plug-ins.

  9. Ste from free ps3 says:

Top of the pops is easily Keyword Luv! It not only bring people flooding in, but gives your readers something in return. Great list.

  10. Thanks for all the comments
