Benefits Of Hosting Your Blog On Your Domain

Like I've said in my previous posts about web resources, if you are serious about wanting to earn money on the internet, you'll need a blog preferably hosted on your own domain. For those of you wondering why you should spend a few bucks in getting a blog hosted on your domain name instead of a free one, below are the benefits you stand to gain from a hosted blog.

  1. Total Control: Unlike blogs hosted on Google or Wordpress servers, you are free to tweak EVERY aspect of your blog to make it unique to you alone. A lot of plug-ins are available for Wordpress and Google blogs, which make blogging a lot easier. You can even go ahead as to redesign your blog making it standout amongst the vast amount of blogs out there.  You can even go as far as developing a brand for yourself using your business logos and header images similar to that of your website
  2. Memory Friendly: domain names such as yourname.blogspot.com or yourname.wordpress.com are sometimes pretty hard to remember by most web surfers. Hosting your blog with an easy to remember, search engine optimized domain name somewhat of assures you that visitors will remember your domain name and come around frequently to see what's new on your blog. Search Engine Optimized (SEO) domain names are basically domain names that have the keywords of your website within them. Example: Let's say your blog is all about making money online, you could go ahead and register www.making-money-online.com or www.makingmoneyonline.com. Please note that the hyphenated web address is more search engine friendly than the non hyphenated one BUT most web surfers might find it easier to type in the non hyphenated one. Also too many hyphens in a domain name could trigger the spam filters of some search engines and you'll end up penalized for unknowingly spamming the search engine. SEO domain names also help to increase your visibility in the search engines as most sites like Google, give priority to those websites who have the searched keyword in their domain names.
  3. Security: Remember when I said the word free comes with many buts? As is seen with free web hosts, your blog could be brought down or lost without warning if you host them on Google or Wordpress servers. Imagine losing a large blog which you have built & monetized over months and years in a flash. It's really painful stuff. When you have your blog hosted on your own domain and webspace, you're rest assured of not waking up one morning and finding yourself locked out of your account or having lost vital information. Blogs hosted on domain names can be backed up unlike those hosted on the software's server. This back up function makes it possible for you to move your blog i.e Wordpress Blog, to another web host should you encounter problems with your host

So there you have it. Three good reasons to host your blog on your own domain names. Feel free to comment below if you have something to add or want to ask a question.
