If you look around the web today, you'll see that a good number of people are blogging just for the sake of blogging. They're writing about their day at work or personal diaries without caring if they make money with their daily posts or not. Now don't get me wrong. There's absolutely nothing wrong in a blog that's not monetized but then wouldn't it be nice to earn say $10 -$50 a week from your blog?
Some site have a huge number of followers and are not utilizing this traffic the right way. Hopefully by the end of this short post, those of you who haven't looked into making money from their traffic would start thinking about it.
When it comes to making money online with blogs, high quality content is required but most importantly adverts must be present around the site and that's the only way to make money online with your blog
- Advertisements Featuring Google Adsense : Whether you blog with Google's Blogger or Wordpress, you must learn how to put up Google Adsense ads. Signing up for Google Adsense is quite easy and you are guaranteed approval after a few days. Once you've been approved, you can log into your account and start creating your ads. A detailed quick start guide on how to get your adsense ads/codes can be found here. When you get your code, log on to your wordpress account, go Appearance then Widgets and create a plain text widget. Fill in the title of the widget and inside the large space, paste your adsense code, save and you already displaying Google Adsense on your site. Jeff at WordPressMax has written a good piece on working with WordPress text widgets. Be sure to read Google's Adsense Policies and Webmaster's Guidelines so as not to break their rules.
- Advertisements Featuring Affiliate Products: Basically what you do here is sign up free of charge as an affiliate at ClickBank, Commission Junction or PayDotCom, search the marketplace for products that blend with the main subject/theme of your blog, get affiliate clinks for this products and start promoting them right away. A good suggestion would be to try out these products then review them on your blog. NEVER lie to your readers about the products because you'll lose credibility when they all order the product and it turns out to be CRAP! Expect to rake in like 30% to 70% on each sale made through your affiliate links.
- Advertisements Featuring Your Own Products & Services: This is another bona fide way to make money online blogging. As you blog away, you could offer your readers your services in exchange for a token fee or you could even advertise your own products. NOTE: Under no circumstance must you be caught pushing hard to make a sale with your blog. The reader is meant to be given a choice as to whether he/she wants to buy or click. Websites are meant for pitching products. Blogs are meant for offering good ol' healthy tips and advice.
Always endeavor to blog regularly minimum of 2-3 times a week and make judicious use of keywords in all your posts. All these increase your ranking in the search engines, get you more traffic and enables you to make more money online blogging.

I cannot for the life of me get adsense code to stay in the text widget. It just disappears after I hit save. Everyone else says how 'easy' this is. What am I doing wrong??
@ Biodiselchris: I'm at loss of what to say. Adsense works like a charm in all text widgets I've ever used. Probably your theme is not well configured for the use of widgets. Try another theme and see what happens. Hope this helps.
thanks for the reply. someone else in a thread you link to in your post said he had the same problem (in 2008) and the one response was upgrade from v 2.5 to 2.5.1
do you do this exclusively online or are you uploading files. it's very irritating I can;t put ads in my site. different themes, different browsers nothing works
I guess that would be the wordpressmax blog you're talking about. I really don't know what you're referring to when you say "do you do this exclusively online or are you uploading files". If you're refering to upgrading wordpress, I upload the files myself. You can check out my tutorial here: The Safest Way Of Upgrading All Wordpress Blogs.
My first usage of adsense in the sidebar was with Wordpress version 2.7.1.
Get back at me.
Very interesting site, I'll definitely visit again!
Truly well documented. However I must say $10 - $50 a week is not sufficient to make blogging for cash such a big deal.
@Paul Onwueme: My bad
I was referring to the initial stages of the blog. Blogging for cash takes a lot of work but can be achieved so while the struggle continues, it wouldn't hurt to be making some small cash.
