Laptop Computer Crashes & Blog Posts Of The Week 10
Posted by Udegbunam Chukwudi on May - 7 - 2010
WOW! It’s been 2 months since the last edition of my top blog posts of the week and I really have to apologize to you guys for the break in transmission. lol. It so happens that immediately after I left camp, I had a wonderful welcome back post drafted only to lose it to a minor accident that went major.
As I was adding finishing touches to that blog post, I mistakenly spilled yoghurt on my laptop and the keyboard went berserk. All effort to salvage the damn thing left me with a partially functioning keyboard and 3 days later while fooling around, for a definite solution, my laptop crashed.
That crash led to the loss of 90% of all my precious data including my past and recent blog posts. Some of you might have noticed that for like 3 weeks, I’ve been recycling posts that had previously appeared @ my pet/defunct project, PatchworkOfTips. Well I had to do so in order not to break my posting schedule of every Monday, Wednesday and Friday due to the lack of a functional computer.
Anyway the posts weren’t gathering as much as attention as they are now, while they were @ PatchworkOfTips which I’m currently revamping again!
With the help of the Google, I’ve been able to salvage my laptop and all that’s left is to find a replacement keyboard. In the mean time, my laptop has been "frankinsteined" into a desktop cos of the external USB keyboard, I’m now forced to use pending when my dealer finds a replacement keyboard or when I travel back to the city of Lagos to get a new laptop (whichever comes first).
Either way, I’m back and I hope we can pick up from where we left
so let’s go!
How to Transfer A Self Hosted WordPress Blog To Blogger Without Losing PageRank And Traffic by Amit Banerjee, somewhat of guided me in my quest to relocate PatchworkOfTips from wordpress to blogger. I only wish the tutorial zoned in moving to blogger with the same domain name instead of using that .blogspot.com domain. As always excellent tutorial from Amit

Let’s face it! Depending on big your blog is or you want it to be, @ some point in time, you are most definitely going to need some help to keep things running smoothly especially when you ain’t ready to quit that fabulous day job of yours. If you’ve been considering advertising on Facebook, you might want to read Ajith Prasad’s Facebook Advertising Tips and Strategies and while you’re @ it, peruse his tips on finding blog post ideas that people are actually searching for.
My fellow Nigerians if you’ve been asked by an online business, to submit a scanned copy of your credit/debit card for verification purposes and you kinda felt insulted, do not be as it happens the world over as some bloggers complained to Tran Tinh after they heeded the call to take advantage of Netfirms $1 .com domain names.
Finally for my readers who understand Spanish, Francisco shows you how to add the New Facebook Like to your blogger and wordpress blogs without the use of a plug-in.
Here’s hoping you all have a fantastic weekend. Cheers!
Update: My English speaking readers can now add the Facebook plug-in after reading Amit Agarwal’s Add Facebook Plugins to your Blog – Quick Guide.

Sorry about your laptop being fried but you should know better than to eat yogurt over it
Also how is it that most of your blog posts got lost, aren’t they hosted on the server, and one last thing, who would want to transfer their blog from WordPress to Blogger? Were you to say from WordPress to a self hosted blog, now that I could understand, but to blogger?

LOL. It wasn’t my fault. The sachet of the yogurt wasn’t strong enough and when i applied a little pressure to squeeze some out, it burst @ the side and caused damage. My blog posts weren’t lost rather my Windows Live Writer backup of my blog posts were.
With regards to the transfer from wordpress to blogger, it was necessary cos the blog wasn’t generating enough traffic or fund to justify the $45 I was paying for web hosting so I decided to move to blogger with a custom domain pending when I had more time to focus on the blog.
P.S: Thanks for trying again. I contacted Hostgator and they said it was a Mod_security issue which occurs from time to time but everything is okay now
I have had to salvage so many PC’s over the years due to one broken component or another.

This will be my first time salvaging a pc and it will hopefully be the last. It’s such a money waster.

Lol. It’s not about buying domains for buying sake. Some folks are into the bizness of selling domain names and they are the ones who are quite interested in stuff like this
P.S: Thanks for the Yahoo Pop access tip. Works using Windows Mail on my laptop
Ndo oh. Damn bloody yoghurt.
Tell me the yoghurt’s name and I’ll send my people to go find its people and rough them up real good. (Alternatively, I can settle for the cow it came from. Yes. It’s de cow’s fault. Totally. Revenge is mine…and yours.)
Welcome back

There ya go. Another good reason not to eat yogurt…lesson: Yogurt and computers don’t mix well together.
Sorry about your laptop.
