How To Deal With Content Scrapers & Autobloggers

Dealing with content scrappers and autobloggers ain’t child’s play. It could be quite difficult especially if one decides to go the "File a DMCA" way. You could wait months only for Google to tell you that they don’t see any infringement of your copyright by the scrapper’s site.

After some research prompted by the discovery of the theft of my blog posts, I made a list of 4 possible ways of frustrating content scrappers and autobloggers.

DEALING WITH CONTENT SCRAPPERS AND AUTOBLOGGERS COPYRIGHT VIOLATION.

  1. Use more pictures and less text in your important tutorials and then Enable HotLinking: Using this method, I can be sure that the scraper would have to personally download and host the images on his own server for them to work perfectly well.
  2. Apply watermarks to all images, that way the scraper’s readers might get curious and browse to your site. Better still, with the watermarks in place you can lay solid claim to a violation of your copyright and get Google to de-index the site for sure.
  3. Use a WHOIS TOOL to find out, which web host is hosting the scrapper or autoblog and then contact them politely to have them issue a warning to the admin of the autoblog or scrapper site. THIS WAS HOW I GOT RID OF THE NIGERIAN SCRAPER/AUTOBLOG. WORKED WONDERS FOR ME. THANK GOD ;-) !
  4. Switch from Full RSS Feed to Partial RSS Feed: I considered taking this route but felt I would be punishing my readers unnecessarily so I didn’t do it @ all.

Have you got any tips of you’re own with regards to handling content scrapers and autobloggers? Please do share with us. Thanks :)

I place a digital fingerprint, which is unique string, in the footer of my RSS feed. When someone scrapes my feed, the footer is also included in their post. I simply can do a search for the fingerprint in a search engine that has indexed their post, and then I can take action, if needed.
