Even before the world was hit by the global recession, making money online was on everybody lips especially here in Nigeria where the unemployment rate and consequent crime rate is sky high. More and more Nigerians are looking to make money online thus the reason for my compiling this list of ways to make money online in Nigeria.
NOTE: You’re better off working offline than online cos it’s hard work. Don’t believe the quarter baked “Nigerian gurus” who go about claiming that in as little as weeks to one month, you could make hundreds of dollars from filling out surveys and thousands of dollars from marketing products online.
It’s all HYPE! Let the following words be your guide: MAKING MONEY ONLINE IS HARDWORK AND THERE’S NO SHORTCUT TO IT!
My Top 10 tips on how to make money in Nigeria kicks off with entry Number One; Paid Online Surveys.
- Paid Online Surveys: This method of earning some cash online is simply getting paid for voicing your opinions on a selection of topics, products, services etc. I’ve written two comprehensive posts on this and hope to update them when I get any new info concerning them. Check out The Top 10 Commandments Of Paid Online Surveys and SOB’s Top 5 Free Paid Online Survey Sites.
- Sale & Resale of EBooks on Making Money Online etc: This works well for people who have an expert knowledge about how things work in a particular niche. They put their experience to pen and paper or Ms Word, create PDFs from it and then market it. Examples are The Complete Quick Cash Blueprint Guide & Online Survey Total Package Report by Kenneth Ifeanyi. There’s a huge money potential here if and only if, what you have to offer in terms of information, is FRESH, WORKS and HASN’T BEEN OFFERED BY OTHER MARKETERS.
- Google Adsense: If you stumbled on this blog via Yahoo, Google or any other search engine, you might have noticed the ad @ the bottom and left of this post. These ads are Google Adsense ads and making money from them ain’t easy at all for beginners. You need a blog with loads of traffic to make money online in Nigeria with adsense. You get paid each time someone clicks on your ads. The two main keys to making money online with adsense are search engine optimized content and loads of traffic most importantly search engine traffic since they are the ones most likely to click on ads. One powerful adsense equation is Adsense Revenue = Traffic Levels + High Paying Ads + Relevant Ads + Optimally Positioned and Designed Ads. NOTE: There are serious rules surrounding making cash online with adsense. Check out my blog post; Top Ten Critical Google Adsense Mistakes To Avoid and Grizzly Bears blogs, Make Money with Adsense, Make Money Online Grizzly and How To Make Money Online For Beginners for great adsense tips.
- Free Seminars, Workshops & Webinars*: That’s right! Free seminars and workshops generate quite a lot of money for the organizers. The trick is to attract you with the prospect of learning, FREE OF CHARGE, how to make money online BUT you’re then bombarded with HYPED UP gist on how much money you can make in as little as 1 month. Before the seminar is over, most of you will then be reaching for your wallets to buy WHATEVER product is been offered to you. Please note that I’ve NEVER attended any free seminar or workshop BUT I’m almost a 100% sure that this is how funds are generated from Free Seminars, Workshops and Webinars*. *Webinars are the online version of Seminars.
- Web Hosting & Domain Registration: This form of online business is growing gradually each day. In summary what happens is you buy web hosting from a major web host such as Hostgator and then resell bits of it to other people. My blog posts Web Hosting Reseller Deals From Hostgator and Make Money Online Reselling Web Hosting cover everything you need to know about the business.
- Opening of PayPal Accounts: Some useless people have so over-stressed the need for PayPal to everybody looking to start an online business and this has made every Tom, Dick & Harry come out with claims he/she can get a Verified PayPal account for you in days. BEWARE! Most of them are con artists. Henry Omenogor is legit BUT remember that owning a PayPal account as a Nigerian residing in Nigeria is not legit.
- Sale Of Printed EBooks and Videos: Henry Omenogor pioneered this one and has been successful doing it. Selling physical copies of your e-products is a great way of making money online cos it makes the info portable and easily readable without the need of a computer.
- Affiliate Programs: I’m in doubt of how many Nigerians actually make money via this means cos many Nigerian blogs I’ve seen are whack and repel on first sight due to useless rehashed content and mucho typographical & grammatical errors . Affiliate programs are basically signing up to promote other peoples’ products in return for a commission on each sale. Popular examples of sites that offer Affiliate programs are ClickBank, CJ and Amazon.
- MLM & HYIP: MLM means multi-level marketing and HYIP means high yield investment programs. Basically you pay someone a specific amount in return for that person to add you to a list. As your name climbs up that list you make loads of cash. A good example can be found @ this blog post; How To Turn $10 into $5,000 In a Month or Less. DO NOT BE FOOLED by their claims that their system has been proven to work on Oprah, Dateline , Wall Street Journal, 20/20, United States Postal System etc. It’s a MASSIVE SCAM and can get you in big trouble with the U.S Government. I’ll be dedicating a separate post to MLM & HYIP scams, so stay subscribed to my blog updates via email or rss.
- Last but not the least is Forex Trading. Unfortunately, I don’t have much info about this so you’ll have to google some more to get info about this method of making money online.
That was my top 10 ways to make money online in Nigeria. If you’re looking for free ebooks on how to earn an income online, be sure to check out my Free Ebooks area.

As someone who owns quite a lot of domains, one thing I have been getting a lot recentley is emails and letters from people trying to get me to move my domain to them for about $50, telling me that if I don’t that I will loose the domain.
I’m not sure if that is one they are into.
@David Hopkins: I must say that I was quite confused when I saw your comment but after like 5 minutes, it finally clicked. Is this some kind of fraud being perpetrated online again. I need more info on this. It sounds like a very stupid scam but then hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
You know what I’m CONFUSED. I’d be very much happy if you could elaborate on this. Thanks.
P.S: Thanks for stopping by. I never knew one of the big guys would be reading my post(s)
This is a good list. To add to David’s comment, there is also another scam that is quite common among domain owners. In this case, a potential buyer emails a domain owner saying he will buy his domain (and names a very good price). The buyer then says that the domain must first be appraised by a domain appraisal company and he will pay whatever the appraisal company says it is worth. He includes a link to an appraisal company he trusts, which is of course owned by him or his partners. So, the domain owner pays $40-60 for a domain appraisal and never hears from the “buyer” again.
@Dave from Electronic Message Centers: SEDO once alerted domain sellers to this kind of scam. Such a pity that some folks still fall for it
Very interesting! It almost feels like a different world… and I guess it really is. My original gut feeling was that it would be easier in Nigeria if you have internet access since surely the cost of living is cheaper than it is in the US but the affiliate commissions would be the same.. but based on what you write there are a lot of hurdles involved that Americans don’t face.
@Udi: Thanks for stopping by. Had I not known you I would have deleted your comment cos you’re not following my comment policy. You’re legit so I’ll let it fly. Besides it’s my blog and I can break my own rules. lol
As you rightly say, there are a lot of hurdles involved making money here in Nigeria and it’s partly the fault of the corrupt many amongst us. Gradually restrictions are been raised but folks are still wary of Nigerians. The leaders are full of shit and aren’t doing anything to help matters either.
Oh I see. You mean with regards to KeywordLuv? But part of KeywordLuv is allowing you to choose your anchor link – and by eliminating that you really negate its usefulness. Personally I don’t mind, since I don’t use my blog for anything except for, well, blogging. However, whenever I see KeywordLuv I figure I may as well add a useful anchor text (like SEO New York). Won’t do it here though
@Udi: Like I said previously, you’re very much welcome to use Keywordluv as it’s supposed to be used. I make an exception for a few folks. The comment policy came about when too many folks started spamming my blog with too many useless keywords that ended up diluting what my blog’s keywords. I had to draw a line @ some point.
I was a little apprehensive when I read the title of the post, and I was glad that my assumption was completely wrong. It’s unfortunate that because of all the scams that originates from Nigeria, it’s given the place a bad name.
It’s good to see that you’ve listed all legitimate ways to make money online, many of which I have used and that have worked for me. There should be more of this type of blog just to show that not everything that comes out of Nigeria is bad.
@Sire: You’re the third person who said that too. I guess the title draws the attention of folks who have heard so much about Nigeria’s talent in the scamming arena. LOL. As though we’re the only country in the whole wide world that perpetrate such crimes
.
Keeping it legit and saying it as it is, is what I try to do on this blog. Whenever you mention making money online over here, everybody starts thinking you’re one of those internet fraudsters as most folks here believe that’s the only way to make money online. I’m super glad I made your assumption a wrong one.
Thanks a lot for stopping by.
lol Some people won’t like this your article at all. You’ve shot them in the foot and deflated their ego. How on earth will they make more money from the ignorant Nigerians who wants to get rich overnight.
Anyway, thanks for sharing the gist. I commend your sincerity even though it will earn you more criticism than praise. Some Google Adsense gurus won’t be happy reading your report.
When I was a noob and yet to own a blog. Someone I met on Nairaland offered to get me rich via Google Adsense. Guess what he had in mind. He was going to sell off a blogspot blog with HIS own Adsense code to me as the magic package.
I didn’t know he was so cruel as at then. What helped me to escape that scam is a golden rule: Never part with cash online until you have done adequate research online about a product or service.
The search engines are generous to anyone that is not too lazy to research information. Ordinary people make review of products and services. So you have the opportunity of being warned before you fall victim to a scammer. Unfortunately, too many wannabe online Nigerian Entrepreneurs are too lazy to conduct such research. They just want a million dollar to drop on their lap while they are lying on their bed.
Kudo’s brother. You can get some gist on Forex Trading from my blog. Cheers.
@NaijaEcash: LMAO. Make dem vex well well. I’m doing my best to keep it as real as possible. I’ve never heard of selling off a blogspot blog. Naija and our innovative ways to scam. LOL. That was a silly one though trying to sell off a free blog.
As you said, laziness na bad thing! Most folks just want everything handed to them in a platter of gold so they can be off to raking in millions online overnight. Beware though of product reviews as many them come up during product launches and are mostly written by affiliates looking to make a quick commission. Instead of looking for e.g: “Kitty Cat review”, try “Kitty Cat scam”.
Thanks for the words of encouragement and I’ll be linking to your posts on forex trading.
These are quite a big list of ideas…
For a beginner it this can be a big help.
But which one do you consider as the best way to earn money?
@Henry Coles: I really wouldn’t know which way is the best way to make money online as it all depends on each individual. If you’re looking for zero cost input, online surveys and affilaite marketing will be the way to go.
I’m a bit late but want to commend you on the no BS post and offer a belated thanks for the links. Given Nigeria’s bad Rap online you have an uphill task ahead of you but worth it as sites like yours will change people’s perceptions. Best of luck and I wish you well.

OMG! I can’t believe it! I’m STARSTRUCK! LMAO.
I never thought you’d found the time amidst thousands of fan mail.
Thanks for the commendation. Coming from you it means a lot to me. I’m very aware of what an uphill task it is for me cos of my nationality but I’m willing to keep going at it and say it as it is. Hopefully some folks will get to learn a few things and quit wasting money on useless IM products!
Do have a nice day and once again, thanks a million times for stopping by
I’m not surprise that Griz came visiting. That is another proof that he is a down to earth guy! None of my former “blog hero” ever thought it necessary to visit and drop a single word of encouragement.
I’m happy you chose the unpopular route. Keep the flag flying, the world will eventually come to understand that something good can come out of Nigeria. I remain proudly Nigerian
Kudos Chuks

His coming around really made my day. At the rate I’m going, I might have to go anonymous after some expose reviews such as the one coming up on Monday about a new product called Facebook Naira. So help me God that I shall not derail from this righteous path. ROFLMAO.
My past review on KodeSurveys & A.W Surveys led to a heated argument that left me saying such horrible things and I just had to delete all comments and prevent new ones from coming in.
P.S: No worry yourself too much about your blogging heros paying you a visit etc. Some as just way too busy (as Griz is) and so you know………. I’ve been lucky to connect with bloggers who reciprocate a lot when you leave comments on their blogs.
i have read this post , very informative ideas, but for the biginers adsense revenu and affiliate programs works very well, because its easy to follow the guide lines, only problem for beginners to generate enough traffic,
one thing i always encourge people some learn and focus how to generate traffic first, then money will be come through your way as easy as a piece of pie.

i am very happy and proud that some Nigerians are out there doing the right thing..i am very proud..thanks for doing a great job….
i personally believe making money online is about solving problems and helping people…whether online or offline.
1.i hate surveys ,there are so many scams out there and i does not solve people’s problems and requires you always working (no form of automated work)
2.selling e-books rocks but does have to be e books on MAKING MONEY ONLINE,we can package our expertise and sell online even information we take for granted like how to set up a blog like yours.
It is highly recommended, you can sell from Nigeria by signing up with http://www.e-junkie.com
3.Google adsense works when you have lots of traffic…Joel Comm the guru of Google adsense just gave out his top selling report on making money with google adsense for free…google him ,get to his blog and get a free download
4.about seminars …i don’t believe in hype and would not lie to people that they can make 1000 dollars in 1 month.it will kill your
reputation in the long run
5.web hosting rocks..my blog is hosted by a Nigerian reseller company and i am happy with their service…recommended but requires knowing how to set up a good business
6.paypal owned by Nigerians is illegal..i don’t recommend that and would not teach people to get one in exchange for cash..having a papypal account does not magically means you will make money
online. There are many other free online payment systems out there
7.selling physical e books works…highly recommended …my company does something similar
8 affiliate marketing works too…and you don’t need to kill yourself with click bank not signing Nigerians
9.multilevel marketing works for a few but i don’t love it
10.forex works but there are lots of people i know losing tons of cash from it
sorry for making this comment very long..
great work Chuks ,will keep visiting
The physical e-book thingy is a huge money maker. I just came back from Henry Omenogor’s seminar where he revealed that the cheapest of his physical ebook was made with just N25 and sells for N500 to N1,000. Can you imagine the kind of profit that dude his making considering that he sells like hot cake
His seminar was great and he did tell it as it is. No make $1,000,000 in 1 month or call EFCC on me crap but then there were a few issues which I just didn’t agree with him @ all. Like Blog farming. Anyway, I shall be writing posts detailing the seminar and all I learned there.
Thanks for dropping by
Udegbunam, It was a little bit surprise to me when I stumble upon your blog online today. You see, as a Nigerian myself living in Europe, it’s a bizarre thing to hear people speaking about Nigeria as a country in a wrong way. I was very glad to see you as one of the honest blogger from Nigeria.
I think people like you could actually make a different by turning the image of Nigeria from the way people around the world perceive Nigerians online. I really appreciate your effort on how you are trying to make a positive change through your blogging online.
As you can see, most Nigeria think that, the only way to make money online is through spamming. But, I can testy that, I had made lofty amount of dollars creating and selling blog online, doing affiliate stuffs, creating my own product which is the next move in my agenda right now.
Anyway, to shorten my commentary here, I want to honestly thank you for making a true impact there. Have a bliss time…talk to you soon

Yeah forex trading is very popular nowadays and you hardly need any experience in stock exchange to make money this way.
There are several so called Expert Advisors that can handle trading automatically for you.
As you rightly say, there are a lot of hurdles involved making money here in Nigeria and it’s partly the fault of the corrupt many amongst us. Gradually restrictions are been raised but folks are still wary of Nigerians. The leaders are full of shit and aren’t doing anything to help matters either
Producing eBooks out of PLR articles is a good money maker, definitely.

I actually can’t believe I came across dis level of honesty from a Nigerian blogger, ure good keep it up!
Thanks oh! A few of us are trying to keep it as real as possible and we plan to continue on that path so help us God. Thanks for stopping by and do have a fabulous day
Pls how can make money with the paid survey and where do i start from

I am actually late to this blog and I would like to another way of making money in Nigeria
Website flipping, it the rave of the moment but the approach the “guru” are going is actually expensive that going the way of using flippa
Flippa uses paypal but I want to mention that flipping website can also be done through digitalpoint forum and you don’t have to pay for the listing, I decided to mention this mention to make people don’t discourage themselves due to paypal policy concerning Nigeria…
Thanks for the tip man. We need more ways of doing business online without been hijacked by Paypal
@Chukwudi, this is a very Nice article. However, i heard you mention Henry. I’m sure you haven’t heard of http://www.ecasharena.com. If you do a google search using any combination of “paypal in Nigeria” it comes out tops. It wouldn’t be so if it isn’t legit as well. There are many legitimate people doing the paypal business apart from Henry. Opening paypal and especially helping people fund and widthdraw is a good source of income for a lot of Nigerians today.
Apart from this, my favorites are Web hosting Business and Adsense.
Nothing can be simpler. I always advise my clients to do only get involved in businesses where there will be no discrimination for being or residing in Nigeria. If only people can be patient and build their businesses from bottom to top. But we have a problem because most of the so called internet Guru’s tell the newbies they can make millions within 2 weeks. I earn a steady income from adsense and it didn’t use to be like that from the start. My website took a little time before it started generating reasonable income. People should understand that.
Another wonderful article. But I don’t agree with online surveys .
If any one wants to be frustrated with make money online , the weapon should online surveys. They are so slow when it comes to earn with it. I dont recommend it for anyone.
Great article Chukwudi

Hi, thanks for the comments but I need to beg you to QUIT leaving links to your site within comments on my blog. It’s not allowed here and Akismet threw your comments into the spam folder because of that. Just imagine the amount of similar comments you might have left around the web that never got approved just because you left links in your comment.
Please read my commenting policy. Cheers
Hey Udegbunam. Paid Surveys and Adsense are great ways.. All of those HYIP programs are junk and I got caught up with them a few years ago and lost some money. Thanks for bringing this to all of our attention for those that have not made the mistake yet.
And yes I have read your commenting policy. Thank you for putting one in place, not many blogs have one available to see.

I read your policy – and laughed a lot.
I think you might be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. There are times when you don’t feel like ranting out your spleen and you feel “great article” will suffice to explain your view of than article that is simply that – great.
I’d love to leave links in my blog- it’s my way of interacting with peeps – but heck, if you don’t like it…
Sigh
John hopes you will read…Staring at the world through my rearview- The Countdown has begun Part 1 of 2
I get your drift but here’s the thing. The truth lies in the fact that most folks who leave those great article comments are lazy-ass dofollow backlink chasers. They don’t want to work for their backlinks.
The only folks I accept those kind of comments from are my regular commenters
Hey!
I just realised filling out the ‘link’ box in the form makes it show up on my page
Gee….Im glad
I think it’s easy to make money online in Nigeria – by understanding the online market – then leveraging on our less developed infrastructure to provide traditional training sessions to bring in money.
And all the rubbish about ‘proof’ and ‘cheques’, many times, are just unverifiable trash.
Nuff said…
John hopes you will read…Staring at the world through my rearview- The Countdown has begun Part 1 of 2
