Create Comments & Backlink Friendly Blogs

Posted by Udegbunam Chukwudi Under Wordpress Plug-ins On April 15, 2009 13 COMMENTS

About a few months ago, 3 months to be precise, Atomic Blogger Alvin Phang launched his Gather Success Link Love Success as a way of giving back to loyal blog readers and saying happy new year.

All you had to do was write a short review about his blog and link to his site using the anchor text, Make Money Online. You could also add him to your blog’s sidebar and then comment on his blog alerting him. In return he created a post with the blog URLS of all contributors which could help in garnering traffic for the contributors.

About two months later, More Great Reasons To Comment @ GatherSuccess was launched. He had installed Comment Luv plug-in and was inviting you to post a comment on his blog and get a link to your last blog post.

The idea of these two concepts was to get backlinks to your blog, thereby increasing your search engine ranking.

He was applauded for his generosity but there are flaws to these.

In the case of Gather Success Link Love Success, if your blog is a NOFOLLOW blog, your linking to his site would be useless to search engines as they will not be allowed to follow his link and give him credit for the keyword phrase, Make Money Online. All he’s going to gain from you is a little traffic from your blog readers.

In the case of More Great Reasons To Comment @ GatherSuccess, I discovered that his blog is actually a NOFOLLOW blog, so your commenting on his blog would only get you traffic from other commentators whose attention is caught by the title of your last blog post. Again since search engines can’t follow the link to your blog post, you don’t get credited at all for the keywords in the anchor text. At his blog only Top Commentators have the nofollow attribute removed.

NOTE: NOFOLLOW was a anti-spam mechanism brought in to stop spammers from building backlinks with their spam comments but with the advent of Akismet, it isn’t needed any longer. Wordpress blogs automatically come with this feature activated but there’s a way to deactivate it.

Enter NOFOLLOW FREE Plug-in by Michele Marcucci.

This plug-in when activated strips your blog of the NOFOLLOW attribute making it a DOFOLLOW blog. Now all links on your site can be followed. In the configuration panel of this plug-in, you can chose where you want the NOFOLLOW removed and where you want it maintained.

Get the plug-in now together with Comment Luv and start rewarding readers who leave comments on your blog/site.

P.S: If you want to know the NOFOLLOW status of your blog/website or that of other blogs/website, I advice you to install the latest version of Mozilla Firefox together with this add-on by the name of NoDoFollow written by Zachary Fox.

With this plug-in installed all you have to do is go to Tools on the menu bar and click NoDoFollow. All nofollow links will be lit in red while dofollow links will be lit in blue/gray.

One SEO tip before I sign off on this post. If you’re looking to increase your search engine ranking for a particular keyword and you’re using blog commenting as a method, use the NoDoFollow add-on to make sure that the links on the comment form don’t have the nofollow attribute.

If you’re just looking to increase traffic a bit, comment on various blogs WISELY regardless of if the nofollow attribute is deactivated or not. Please if you haven’t got nothing to say just ZIP IT! or risk getting tagged as a Blog Spammer when blog owners get frustrated with your WORTHLESS comments!

Hope the post is clear enough. Cheers.

  5. Thanks for sharing and this is very useful and for the great seo tips

  6. really like the idea of comment luv since it is a way to return the web back to being a collaboratives place. I think when you first put up your site you are excited and feel like your content will take over the world then you quickly realize that the only way to keep up there in search rankings is by building relationships with other webmasters.

    thanks good site for me

  8. @ Pawan From Management College In Indore: Your comment simply describes my feelings when I started blogging. Though I was getting comments, they weren’t as much as I got after implementing CommentLuv, KeywordLuv and NoFollow Free on my blog. Logged into my wordpress dashboard yesterday to find over 20 comments awaiting moderation.
    That was huge for me.

This post reminded me to install the wordpress nofollow plugin onto my blog, and also comment luv. I don’t know how to add plugin’s to my blog – hopefully it is straight foward. I’ll follow the links you have and try them out now.

  10. No doubt there are many deep-digging programs out there that can be purchased but yet I consider a lot of them using up a great deal of time to choose really good keywords for profitable market segments. Shouldn´t most people far better go with something effective?

I love your post. Thanks. What I wanted to suggest to anyone looking for free backlinks is to search for “keyword” + “U Comment I Follow” in Google. It works really well, cause the webmasters want your blog comments, and you can put your keyword in your name link – everyone wins.

P.S: Comment delinked cos of failure to follow comment policy :-(
