Hostgator Web Hosting Order Requirements For Nigeria

To all Nigerians looking to switch from their present web hosts to Hostgator, this post will detail every requirement needed by them @ the time of ordering from them.

I’ve offered this same solution, to three other folks via email and hopefully more people will find this useful.



  1. A Debit Card: I used Zenith Bank’s MasterCard Websurfer. Hopefully other MasterCard and Visa by Nigerian Banks will be accepted.
  2. Scanned copy of your International Passport or Drivers License.
  3. Scanned copy of your MasterCard or Visa.

NOTE: If you’re ordering with Zenith Bank’s MasterCard Websurfer, I strongly suggest you contact Hostgator’s Sales Department with requirements 2 and 3 before ordering. In my case, after ordering, Hostgator refunded my money and demanded for verification using requirements 2 and 3.

Unfortunately, this refund took 30 days to be effective (Zenith Bank’s MasterCard Websurfer Policy) and so after verification, I had to wait 30 days to replace my order. Subsequent orders using this card will be hitch-free ;) .

    With as many email scams that are pretending to be from Nigerian people, do you think it’s safe to put your card information on the web when purchasing a host- or are there other options?

    In response to secure hosting comment, its safe. Just look out for the https:// sign. make sure it has an ‘s’ and your are good to go.

    Please after the scanned copy if passport and Web Surfer Card, Hostgator is requesting account statement showing Name and Last 4 digits for further verification.

    What do I do?

      Create a screenshot of your account statement and send it to them. If your account statement doesn’t show you name and last 4 digits of your card, contact Zenith Bank to help you out asap.

        That has been done and the account has been acitvated, but hostgator says the amount has been taken back by the bank.

        What do Ido?

        Do I have to make a payment again?

          What do you mean by the account has been taken back? If you meant that the money has been returned to your card by your bank that is normal.

          I experienced the same thing while verifying the authenticity of my card. Simply verify that the funds have been returned to your card then make payment again.

          It should go through smoothly without a hitch now ;-) .
