Top 4 Reasons For Never Blogging Without Twitter

Traffic is important to blogging and most blogs at some point in time enjoy a huge traffic surge from social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Delicious and StumbleUpon.

The downside is that for new bloggers, it’s always difficult to get this social bookmarking traffic in the first few months and this is where Twitter comes in to the rescue.

Newbies to blogging are highly advised to add a Tweet this button or ReTweet button to their blogs cos of the following reasons.

  1. Twitter is fast becoming sort of a micro bookmarking site. Blog readers are MORE willingly to tweet posts than Digg them. I’m a huge example of that. Ever tried digging a post on dial-up connections? So frustrating. To complete the bookmarking process you have through like 2 –3 pages. With Twitter, your readers can share your posts in less than 10 seconds depending on their internet connection speed.
  2. If you share the same interests as your friends on twitter, they’ll be the first to read your tweeted posts and even go as further as retweeting them for others including your nonfollowers. Your tweets appear frequently in the search engines and get clicked on by folks searching for the keywords contained in that tweet.
  3. IMO, Twitter generates traffic faster than bookmarking sites. As a newbie to blogging, my most tweeted post still remains Top 5 Ways Of Making $100 A Day: IM Gone Wild. It got 67 retweets in one day and generated over 100 Unique visitors. Now tell me which social bookmarking site will do that for you as a newbie to blogging.
  4. Finally, though I don’t have statistics for this, it appears that most people have twitter accounts and not social bookmarking accounts so the probability of a twitter citizen retweeting a good post is quite high.

Do also look into installing the Tweetly Updater wordpress plug-in on your blogs. It automatically tweets your new posts and retweets them whenever you modify them.

Do you have a Tweet This button on your blog? If you do, please share with us why you have it implemented on your blog or your results after implementing it.

I must be the only person who does not tweet...just can't get into it. Can I still add a "tweet this" button even if I don't use twitter???

  2. I don't mean to be the moldy cheese in the bloggers' refrigerator of hope when it comes to the whole tweetme thing, but I will never use it again. It took me several times of using it to realize my Twitter account was being phished every time I retweeted a post via tweetme. I just post it myself now. It takes an extra minute, but its a lot less time opposed to having to continually change my password and apologize for the spam sent out from "me".

    • This is the first time I'm hearing of such. I removed tweetmeme from my blog after I discovered that it had a bug and wasn't showing my retweets any longer. The bug has been fixed now (I think) but I have no intention of revisting them.

As opposed to tweeting your blog posts yourself, you can try using Google. Check out this article by Labnol: Goodbye Twitterfeed. It's what I'm currently using for all my blog posts.

      All the best.

P.S: Merry Christmas and a fabulous new year in advance ;) .
