Maximizing Commentluv, Keywordluv & Dofollow Plug-ins

Huge Page Rank Doesn’t Always Mean Huge Traffic

Most bloggers are simply obsessed with their page ranks. My obsession with it dwindled after I was elevated to Page Rank 2 and still saw no increase in traffic from the search engines and this obsession hit an all time low when Google suddenly decided to bring me down to PR 1 despite all my efforts to get to PR3.

Funny enough while Google was playing around with my PR, my search engine traffic never fell. As I started commenting frequently on other people’s blogs, keyword optimizing my post slugs and “SEOing” my blog’s theme, the traffic continued to rise.

So far so good I’ve come to the conclusion that quality backlinks is the key to high search engine ranking and subsequently a good surge in traffic.

Take the following with a pinch of salt. It’s only a newbie’s perspective of how backlinks and page ranks work.

From what we all know, backlinks from high PR sites give authority to our sites thereby increasing our future page ranks but this isn’t always so because I’ve seen blogs with over 400 backlinks and only page rank 1 to show for all their effort and @ the same time, I’ve seen blogs with little or no backlinks but with PRs around 3 -4.

Take for example Dan Keller of Tycoon Blogger who was miffed at being bumped down to PR 2 despite all his consistency in building backlinks (over 1,500 till date according to him) and posting regularly on his blog. It didn’t even help matters that one of his static sites with only 37 backlinks and no updates in a long time was upped to PR 4. :-D

However, I’ve come to notice that, what these highly backlinked sites, if such a phrase exists, actually enjoy, is a huge traffic brought on by their pages being listed on the 1st page of the SERPs.

A huge page rank boosts your ego like it did mine when I moved up to Page Rank 2 but then it doesn’t pay the bills as it doesn’t ALWAYS get you the amount of search engine traffic which is needed to make a killing @ Google Adsense, affiliate marketing etc.

Effective Backlinking on Dofollow, Commentluv and Keywordluv enabled blogs

Over these past months, I’ve come to learn to promote only my top 15 blog posts as they are responsible for the bulk of my search engine traffic.

When commenting on dofollow blogs with Commentluv and Keywordluv, depending on the type of dofollow plug-in activated on the blog, you are entitled to 2 dofollow links. The Commentluv generated link gives you 10 options only unless you’re a paid subscriber ;) . Using the Keywordluv link, I strive to promote one of my top 15 posts using a choice of keywords.

It typically goes like this: I fill in the Name@My Optimized Keyword, Email and URL fields and then start typing my comment. By the time I’m done typing my comments, Commentluv would have pulled the last 10 posts on my blog out of which I proceed to choose one. After this is done, I then substitute my blog’s home page URL with the URL of the blog post for which I’ve chosen that Optimized Keyword. I click the submit button and I’m done ;)

Here is an example of what I’m talking about.

You can get your own list of top blog posts and keywords via Google Analytics or WP-PostViews plug-in widget.

REMEMBER, DEPENDING ON WHAT KIND OF DOFOLLOW PLUG-IN IS BEING USED ON THE BLOG, YOU MIGHT BE ONLY BE GETTING ONE DOFOLLOW BACKLINK AS IT IS HERE WHERE I USE LUCIA’S LINKY LOVE PLUG-IN.

Aside from my top 15 blog posts, I also select a few unpopular posts to create backlinks to thus another healthy tip, which I’ve used in the past, is to study the entry point of my traffic using FeedJit. The goal here is to monitor which keywords brought the visitor to your site and at which position on the SERPS you were @ that point in time. Posts on the first page are a hit and so you must strive to build some backlinks to them instead of your blog’s homepage.

Here’s how I do it.

I click on “Watch in Real Time” just below the traffic stats bar as shown below:

Backlinks and Traffic Generation

This takes me to the page below where I then scan for traffic that came in through Google just like the one shown below.

Backlinks and Traffic Generation

Clicking on the keyword circled in red will take me back to the search engine page and then show me at what PROBABLE* position I was at the time the search was made and clicked.

*Probable: Note that I said probable above because it’s a known fact that Google SERPS vary for the same search in different geographical location/data centers.

Any keyword that appears on the first page amongst over 400,000 sites is a hit for me and I go all out to create more backlinks to it.

As you can see below, I’m @ position 3 for the long tail "top 5 paid online survey sites" out of over 2.6 million search results.

I hope these little tips help in your backlink creation activities. Feel free to share your tips at getting more backlinks.

Amazing post! This post now reveals that page ranking is truly over rated and does not necessarily reflects the search engine traffic of the website. A top page rank would definitely help by putting you in the spot light but to maintain that position you need to constantly update the blog with fresh content and appealing articles. I totally agree that backlinks do provide the blog with the extra traffic feed. So one needs to create useful and correct backlinks and avoid spam foe better results.

  2. For many who are into money blogging, page rank is all that counts. There are no two doubts about it that quality back links enable high search engine ranking and give great traffic. To me, this scenario of the undeserving websites getting a page rank of 3 or more is utterly senseless.

  3. Through this post i came to know that quality blogs attract traffic and PR doesnt count much.

  5. CommentLuv is amazing. I use it on all of my blogs and it really does increase the amount of REAL comments from readers, as there is an incentive for them to post. I like how you can post your name for a link. Thanks for the post.

Keywordluv has helped the comments on my blogs but they are both still full of spam as they always have been. I agree though, there is a lot more to your serp position than page rank.

P.S: Comment delinked for failure to follow Comment Policy :-(

I am actually on backlink crusade getting them from everywhere related to my niche, cheap laptop, make money online, mlm, blogging tips, and so on, though most of them may not be quality, I have learned one thing they would sooner or later help in making my blog relevant and make it become SERPs relevant and ranker!

  15. Artistic Pictures says:

Why did you consider bank management risk management’s comment as spam? What is wrong with that comment?

  16. Great points. Great read. I love using keywordluv now and it definitely give me positive result on my current website. It’s really a good help. I love dofollow community.

  17. you gotta love the dofollow community. Although I have to say if I started a blog I would be hesitant due to all the spam that would come your way

  18. Hi! The best way to go about linking is to simply have a few high-quality links coming into my website. In the past have tried to really maximize the number of links but now think that kind of strategy simply does not work. It seems that the best way to go about this whole linking thing is quality over quantity. Thanks!

  19. James says:

    Hi,

Thanks for this post; I was also reading another post about do follow plug ins but there seems to be two versions of commentluv? One of them is intense debate. Can you enlighten us on this? Thanks

  20. na wa. infact, i tire. spent my whole day off looking for backlinks. i have commented and commented and commented. i decided to come and find out how important this backlink issue is, and i am a bit confused now sef. you say PR aint so important, but backlinks are. I thought the aim of the back links is to get a high PR?

i am tired sha. despite all my efforts, even almost posting 15 pos my ts daily, my trafic is stil very low compared to my competitors. i dont know wat else to do. sorry if i am ranting. i just tire

    • Udegbunam Chukwudi says:

Lol. Getting a high PR is part of the reason why people chase backlinks but it’s been proven that plenty backlinks ain’t equal to HUGE PAGERANK. Those backlinks are also vital to getting you to the front pages of the search engines which is where the traffic is at.

The traffic will come as soon as Google starts taking note of your backlinks. Just make sure that you are commenting heavily on dofollow blogs as nofollow blogs won’t really do anything to the search engine rankings.

  21. Joanne says:

Thanks for this informative post,It was insightful and profound.Bookmarked and saved to my bookmarks.Nicely written. Well put together.Yes you are right about having a page rank of 2 like my blog doesn’t guarantee loads of traffic money. It seems to take a lot longer and with great hard work and effort.

  22. Do follow blogs & KeywordLuv plug-ins are two simple, smart and easy way to drive some traffic to your site. More people visit on your site for discussion and for comment. As the amount of traffic increase, you gradually get familiar among your audience and increased number of traffic also helps in high ranked in search engines.

  23. I never knew keywords in your comments where such a big factor in getting high search ranks. What a great blogger you are to share this very valuable information with me i really need this boost in my adventure to rank a little bit higher in the search terms i would love to be first for. number 1 blogger thankyou 10/10

  24. This is why I run the Luv plug ins on my site. These plug ins are just amazing. It’s easier to gain quality comments when you have the Luv plug ins on your site. I’ve been using the Luv plug ins for months now and I’m happy with the results.

  25. I learned from you that I should go more in detail: from now on I’ll check my traffic better and create more backlinks for keywords that have a good chance of ranking high.

  26. It’s amazing how many people are using the Luv plugins nowadays. I think it’s because they have found out that these tools are really effective and powerful. Getting quality comments and backlinks is easier if you have these plugins running on your site.

  27. Thanks for the overview i would have to agree that a pr jump is great inspiration. do you have a good site to keep track of pr score?

  28. well as it is,i don’t really care much about page rank.i guest post and comment at will.i wouldn’t mind a PR7 though but i build as much backlinks as i can.

  29. Based on what I have read about the KeywordLuv plugin, it seems to help blog owners and commentators alike.
Lots of users give good reviews and seem very happy with it.
Just wondering if any of your readers have had any negative experiences using the plugin?

  30. I used feedjit before but for some reason I stop using it. It not really show up the correct data when I compared to Google analytic =)

  31. Lusoaloja says:

Thanks by all the tips. I didn’t know it some of them. Now days the PR is not so important, the most important is quality BL

  32. Bruno says:

I think the KeywordLuv plugin look interesting, because you have the opportunity to gain follow a link that is increasingly hard to get nowadays and the advantage of it you can use a anchor text.

    Thanks for this Information.

  33. You are very right. I believe, (just my thoughts not an expert) that pr is not as important as the number of backlinks you have with your keywords in them for rank number 1. I see this we many of my sites just have some a few powerful links does not help as much as many links with your keywords in them.

  34. I don’t care much about Page Rank because my traffic is increasing. But I love blogs that have all those plug ins because they are symbols of appreciation to commenters.

  35. the obsession with pagerank still burns – i really don’t understand it. in fact it’s ironic that the thing google is fighting against the most – spam – is orchestrated mainly by a desire to achieve page rank!

  36. The best blogs to comment for backlinks from the comment section are the ones that are keywordluv enabled. The blogs that allow links in the comment box are a bit difficult to get backlinks from as you have to think a longer time before commenting and eventually linking back to a page on your blog.

  37. I appreciate this guide, and I hope to use it someday. Unfortunately, I’m lagging behind in that I don’t even have 15 posts to choose between to promote. So I wanted to share my method for smaller blogs – promote whichever post you choose through CommentLuv, and promote a page that links back to your site as your KeywordLuv… It means you’re giving up some effort on somebody else’s site, but it also means you get a possibly higher-ranked site linking to yours in the long run. This isn’t a sprint. It’s a marathon. Right?
