Online credit card processing services are totally necessary for anyone looking to sell goods and services online. Credit card merchant accounts are becoming quite popular these days and companies such as 2CheckOut offers one for a one time fee of $49.

Months back I wrote on my top 5 reasons why 2CheckOut rules over PayPal as a payment processor and I suggest you read it again. The PayPal Alternative: 2CheckOut.

Recently 2CheckOut launched their demo services which theoretically allows you to test drive EVERY single feature of their services so you get the hang of it before deciding to accept credit cards and PayPal orders using their services.

NOTE: The Demo account doesn’t allow you to make actual sales. It just allows you to see how the order process flows. A successful demo sale = a successful future live sale when you finally activate your account.

Upgrading your 2CheckOut demo account might be daunting for some thus I’ve made a few screen captures to guide you all on filling your 2CheckOut online application form.

Something else to note is that I made this tutorial with individual merchants in mind ie Sole owners of their business setups but others can learn as well. I’ve only focused on the parts that might be confusing fro some to understand.

Let’s begin

Log on to 2CheckOut main page and Sign Up For Free!

Afterwards sign in to your demo account and click on Apply Now as shown below on the home page.

2CHECKOUT CLIENT INFORMATION: CONTACT/ADDRESS

The Contact/Address section of the Client Information page is pretty self explanatory. Just fill in your Phone number, email addresses, mailing address and physical address. If your mailing address and physical address are the same, please do not forget to tick the same as mailing checkbox.

2CHECKOUT MERCHANT ACCOUNT BUSINESS DATA

Company Name: Since I don’t have a company name, I simply used the name of my website.
Legal Entity Type: Since we are signing up as individuals who do business by ourselves, the best choice is Sole Proprietorship.
Business Incorporated: Since we are neither a company that offers shares to the general public, a company that does not offer shares to the general public nor a non-commercial enterprise, the right option here would be Not Incorporated.
Target Markets: If you are selling digital products, your target should probably be worldwide thus set this to Global.
Tax Payer ID: If your country has issued you one, simply fill it in here otherwise type in N/A.
Bankruptcy Issues: If you’ve ever filed for bankruptcy in the past be sure to indicate that here.
Website URL you will sell from: 2checkOut only offers one merchant account to one website that is you can’t use one merchant account on multiple websites so you are greatly advised to make a careful choice here ’cause any changes could cost you a minimum of $19.
Monthly sales volume (in USD): How much do you expect to make in sales in the span of 1 month .
Monthly Sale Count: How many orders do you expect to fulfill in the span of one month. This depends on various factors one of which is if you have a mailing list to sell to .
Average value per transaction (in USD): Generally you can offer a wide range of products for sale via your 2CheckOut Merchant account. Just calculate the average of the cost of these products and fill it in here.

2CHECKOUT MERCHANT ACCOUNT OWNER/OFFICER INFO

Name: This is your legal first name and last name as the owner of the business.
Ownership Percentage: Since you wholly own the business, this should be set to 100%.
Primary ID and Primary ID Type: To be eligible for a 2CheckOut merchant account, you are required to provide some authentic form of identification such as Social Security Number, US Driver’s License or an International Passport.
Secondary ID and Secondary ID Type: if you have a second means of identification simply specify that here.

2CHECKOUT MERCHANT ACCOUNT BUSINESS HISTORY

Other than your website, how do you solicit or advertise your products and/or services?: Simply tick or mention the avenues through which you plan on promoting your goods and services.
Who enters credit card information into the processing system?: Generally the norm online is that the customer is the one who enters the credit card details so choose Customer/Cardholder.
Do you plan to sell any physical products?: If you have plans on selling stuff like pens, computers or anything physical please state YES!
What is your return policy?: I’m not sure if this is same as Refund Policy so I think you can set it to N/A but to be sincere I think you are better off assuming it’s the same as a Refund Policy and thus state what your policy is. Example: 30 day Full Money Back Guarantee. Though not clearly stated 2CheckOut requires EVERY merchant to have a return/refund policy.
How is this return policy clearly disclosed to the customer?: Generally return policies are clearly displayed on the sales page and another page is dedicated to further explain the terms of the return policy. Just say on your sales page and leave a link to the dedicated terms of return/refund policy page.
After charge authorization, how long until the product or service is delivered?: Depending on how you setup your sales system, your ebooks could be delivered as soon as the order process is completed or after you’ve personally verified the transaction. For physical goods, it all depends on what method of shipping you plan on using.

NOTE: Once you are done, you are expected to submit your application. You would be required to email or fax in your ID and Utility Bill (PHCN, Water or Telephone Bill).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT 2CHECKOUT

How Much Does A 2CheckOut Account Cost?

It costs a one time fee of $49. Since you are only allowed one merchant account per website, an extra account would cost you just $30. To get an extra account for $30, you have to contact 2CheckOut with your previous Merchant Account ID and $19 would be credited to your account.

How Can I Make Money Online With 2CheckOut?

You can make money online with 2CheckOut by signing up for as an affiliate and promoting the products sold there within. You could also get a merchant account and start promoting 2CheckOut too

Can I withdraw My 2CheckOut Account Balance Straight To My Bank Account?

Yes you can via International Wire Transfer.

If you’re just joining in, this is the third installment on a series of post based on my experience of the Breakthrough seminar by Nigerian internet marketer, Henry Omenogor. The first two posts were Henry Omenogor’s Breakthrough Experience and Autoblogging, Blogging Farms and Copyrights Issues.

This installment focuses on the new rules of owning an illegal but verified PayPal premier account.

I shall not go into much details with this post as it’s only an update of the past post, How To Get A Verified PayPal Account In Nigeria. So without further ceremony here are the new developments regarding this subject

PAYPAL VERIFICATION UPDATE FOR NIGERIANS

You don’t need to change your Proxy/IP address to sign up for PayPal.
Always make sure you access PayPal via https://www.paypal.com so as to make sure that you’ll be redirected to the real PayPal site as there are some fake PayPal sites around.
Graphcard Virtual debit cards and virtual US address as well as Payoneer Prepaid MasterCard can’t be used to verify PayPal.
Make sure you’re opening a Premier Account so you can receive credit card payments.
Registering as a resident of a PayPal accepted African country no longer works. You have to register as a resident of U.A.E (United Arab Emirates) or India.
You have to create a free account @ ShopVCC and then buy their Virtual PayPal Debit Card for $7.50. This card will enable you verify your PayPal Premier Account. NOTE: You need to have a LibertyReserve account in order to be able to buy the Virtual PayPal Debit Card from ShopVCC.
You can open a LibertyReserve account for free then fund it @ the rate of N170=$1 through Instant Gold NG.
After ordering, ShopVCC will send you (via email) the 16 digit number of your Virtual PayPal Visa Debit Card as well as it’s expiry date and CVV number.
After filling in your debit card details @ PayPal, PayPal will request for the exact amount deducted from your card as well as the Expo(u)se PayPal code number attached to that transaction. Since you can’t check the statement of the Virtual PayPal Visa Debit Card, you’ll need to contact ShopVCC for the Expo(u)se code as well as the exact amount deducted from your card. As soon as you provide PayPal with this info, your account automatically becomes Verified.
The Virtual PayPal Debit Card should never be used again after being used to verify PayPal.
All transactions on PayPal right from the account opening process must be done from the same IP or you risk your account being frozen.

NOTE: PayPal ain’t stupid! You are better off working with some other payment processor or getting a trusted friend who resides in a PayPal accepted country to open and manage an account for you.
One false step and your account gets frozen with all your earnings as well!

A Quick Look @ Chargebacks and 2CheckOut

If you accept credit cards as a form of payment on your site, chargebacks and refunds are definitely something you might have to deal with @ some point in time. At the end of this post is a free e-book that’s all about Beating Chargebacks.

According to Wikipedia, a chargeback is the return of funds to a consumer, forcibly initiated by the consumer’s issuing bank. Specifically, it is the reversal of a prior outbound transfer of funds from a consumer’s bank account or line of credit. On the other hand, a refund is initiated by the customer himself and the issuing bank is NEVER brought in..

In both cases the products bought are returned to the merchant DEPENDING on if they were physical (chairs, paper, magazines etc) or digital goods (e-books, web hosting etc).

A chargeback could arise for various reasons including:

The cardholder couldn’t reach the merchant to lay a pertinent complaint.
An urgent support ticket issued by the cardholder wasn’t promptly handled.
The transaction was illegally done by a third party e.g Credit card theft or identity theft.
Friendly fraud. The cardholder is fraudulent and was only looking to get the product for free. (This seems to be the case mostly with digital products)

Chargebacks are quite expensive as you get to payback the customer what he/she paid for your services as well as you get to pay your merchant account provider for time wasted in handling chargebacks.

According to 2CheckOut, products that will experience a higher degree of chargebacks are intangible and products that appeal to children, teenagers, and single adults. Products that will experience a lower amount of chargebacks are tangible products and products purchased primarily by professionals and families.

In most instances you will be notified as to any inquiry or complaint associated with the product you are supplying. If, however, 2CO determines that a failure to quickly cancel or refund a transaction would result in more harmful and costly chargeback procedures than it is likely that a refund or cancellation with be immediately transacted.

How To Get A Verified Paypal Account In Nigeria

Let it be known that it’s illegal as a Nigerian, to own a Verified PayPal account but if you insist on getting one, by all means keep reading this post.

I have a Verified PayPal account BUT so far I haven’t summoned the courage to use it @ all . Find out why @ this blog post; Which Is Better? PayPal or 2CheckOut.

I got my PayPal Business Account verified by Henry Omenogor in almost a month after payment of 6,000 Naira. The process was quite simple.

You google for an address in a PayPal accepted country e.g google “Benin Republic address”. On the results page, find a website that has a Benin Republic address and copy the address.
Go to Paypal and sign up for a Verified Business Account using a modified* version of the Benin Republic address you got from Google. Modified* means change the house number or street address.
In the end, you’ll be asked to verify your account using a Credit or Debit Card preferably the PayPal Plus Card (PPC). Here’s where the services of Henry Omenogor comes it.
You place a call to either of the following numbers and request details of paying for a PayPal Plus Card. The numbers are Ayo 07025825797; Yemi 07025825796 and Henry: 08027246021.
NOTE: Do not make the mistake of ordering the book on that page that goes by the title, Revealed!! How To Own & Verify Your PayPal Even If Your Country Is Not Listed. It’s crap! After reading it, you will still need to order the PPC from them. Make this mistake and you’ll definitely end up paying more than 6,000 Naira for a Verified PayPal Account.
Once you’ve made payment and it has been verified by Henry’s staff, you will need to wait a minimum of 2 weeks to get the number of card in your email.
When the number arrives, log on to your previously created Unverified PayPal account and fill in the details of the card for verification to take place.
A 4 pin code, if I remember clearly well, will be sent to the owner of the PayPal Plus Card (Henry Omenogor). This number will be forwarded to your email account and using it on your Unverified Paypal account makes it Verified and ready for unlimited transactions.

Like I said before, I DON’T endorse getting a PayPal account if you ain’t on the list of approved countries. They can be quite nasty.

At a forum someone once said :

Paypal has caused the downfall of thousands of online businesses and destroyed countless people’s reputations.
They freeze peoples accounts for no apparent reason and it’s estimated less than 10% of people EVER get their money back!
PayPal does this to make interest off the money in the frozen account. Search the internet and read it for your self!

I couldn’t agree less with him. It’s the sad truth so as we say over here in Nigeria; “Shine Your Eyes Well Well” before dining with PayPal.

So there you have it. A QUICK and ILLEGAL way of getting a Verified Paypal Account in Nigeria.

To launch a successful business online, prospective merchants know they can’t do without the big and trusted payment processors like PayPal, Click Bank, PayDotCom etc.

In recent times, gurus have been debating whether PayPal is really worth it or not. It’s not hard to find sites that are offering to secure Verified PayPal Merchant Accounts for merchants in ineligible countries.

I must admit that when I started out, I was drawn in by the message, “Without PayPal you can’t make money online” and so I paid $40 for an account without thinking twice. True to their words I got a Verified PayPal account afterwards but something I read later on made me desist from using that PayPal account for any major transaction.

I learnt that PayPal is SMART in that they know of merchants in ineligible countries that use their services but they don’t raise red flags UNTIL a large transaction is about to take place and then they strike. You get slapped by PayPal and lose your hard earned money. That’s the reality of things with PayPal.

The reasons why I signed up with them are

Nigeria is eligible
They offer low cost check payments & international wire transfers to Nigeria. Also they’ve joined forces with Payoneer to provide faster & easier payments to merchants. As at this time last year, they had a Special $10 offer for every New 2CheckOut supplier/merchant. Personally I find Payoneer’s Fees ABSOLUTELY ridiculous! So I’m sticking with the International Wire Transfer.
They offer a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.
Most important of all, they process customers who want to buy from you using PayPal thereby eliminating my need for an illegitimate Verified PayPal account that could see me facing financial troubles if my account is frozen.
People are getting wary of using PayPal because in most cases they require your bank account details. Their major concern is what happens when someone hacks into the system and gets hold of my bank account details?

So back to the question. Which is better? PayPal or 2CheckOut? I’ll go with 2CheckOut. What about you? What’s your take on this?
