Top Benefits Of Disqus System

As of September 30th 2011, StrictlyOnlineBiz.com’s comment area is now being powered by Disqus Comments. I’ve never been a fan of their system as once upon a time, they required you sign in to leave a comment on sites that use their services.

Well over the years, Disqus seems to have undergone some major changes that have now made it a strong competitor amongst the likes of Intense Debate, LiveFyre and Facebook comments.

It was never my intention to make use of the Disqus commenting system but after I got featured in Anna Hoffman’s Commentluv Enabled Blog List and started getting inundated with spammy comments from backlink chasers, I began searching for an effective third party commenting system.

I tried LiveFyre first but it was such a huge disappointment and I ended up trying out Disqus which I instantly fell in love with. Here are a few reasons why I love and plan to stick with the Disqus commenting system.

BENEFITS OF DISQUS COMMENTING SYSTEM OVER LIVEFYRE

  1. Email Comment Moderation: This feature allows you to moderate blog comments via your email account without logging into the wordpress dashboard. This is one feature that wordpress needs to add as soon as possible to self-hosted wordpress. I can simply approve, delete and reply to comments effortlessly via my BlackBerry device Winking smile. LiveFyre comments could just not be put into moderation thereby flooding my blog with spam comments.
  2. Email and Login Not Needed: visitors to your site can leave comments without dropping off their email addresses or logging into any social network account. LiveFyre doesn’t offer this feature at all. You have to have a LiveFyre account, Open ID, Yahoo or Twitter to comment.
  3. Great Spam Detection: Even without the dreaded Akismet, Disqus handles those spammy comments pretty well. LiveFyre was a nightmare in this department. Spam comments were auto-approved and despite being deleted from the database, they still appeared in the comment area Sad smile
  4. Disqus To WordPress Comment Sync: Comments left on the Disqus platform are synced with your wordpress comments thus in the event that you eventually want to  move back to wordpress commenting platform, all your previous comments would not be lost Winking smile. LiveFyre’s syncing is faster than Disqus though.
  5. Less WordPress Plugins: With the installation of Disqus on my site, I deactivated Growmap’s Antispambot Plugin and Simple TrackBack Validation plugin. I made the decision to move away from the dofollow movement and as such I deactivated Commentluv, Link Love and Keywordluv plugin.

To all my previous loyal commentators who might be pissed that I deleted their dofollow backlinks, not to worry. If you’ve contributed generously to this site, your site is listed in the sidebar Winking smile.

Finally one feature that I feel would make Disqus complete is the ability to send out personal comment reply notifications to commentators. For now they only offer "subscribe to all comments".

  1. Right one there bro… To many spam comments without the use of Disqus. I have been using for so many months not until recently. I switched back to default wordpress commenting system because of keywordluv and the war of spam comments started again. Imagine, i got like 420 spam comments in less than 30 minutes. Then i knew that if I dont change back, i’ll rather be administering comments than blogging effectively. I’m back on disqus

Lol. So true man. It’s as though they have some form of monitoring service. Within the few minutes I moved from LiveFyre to Disqus, the amount of spam comments that came through was nothing to write home about at all. So much for the joy of the dofollow movement. I’ve finally decided to focus move on on-page seo than off-page seo.

  2. Why didn’t I think about this ? I hear exactly what you’re saying and I’m so happy that I came across your blog.
