Apologies and Comments Policy Reviewed (Again)!

Posted by Udegbunam Chukwudi On December - 30 Under Announcements 1 COMMENT

My loyal RSS Feed subscribers are sure bound to be asking themselves this very instant why I’m fond of apologizing every now and then. Well that’s who I am. I’m talented in being a bitch when pushed to the wall and also talented in then turning around to apologize hours/days later despite my not being @ fault in some situations.

APOLOGY NUMBER ONE

My first apology goes out to Koko Dennis & Ayeseteminikan Adewale C. My post, Online Surveys In Nigeria: Do They Really Exist?, created a misunderstanding that lead to a fight (verbal abuse sort) which saw me somewhat of revealing a part of me I’m working hard @ suppressing each day.

Koko Dennis & Ayeseteminikan Adewale C felt I had rubbished the image of KodeSurveys with the short paragraphs I had written about them. I was accused of calling the aforementioned company a scam despite this allegation being clearly invisible in my review.

At a point in time, I felt so insulted/degraded and lashed out @ both parties, with much of my venom aimed @ Ayeseteminikan Adewale C. In the process I said some pretty awful things which I somewhat of regret @ the moment. So awful were the things I said, that this particular blog post was featured @ Nigerians Online Boxing Webring (NOBW) – Part1.

Koko Dennis: I’m sorry if you felt I was defaming KodeSurveys. As you suggested in your comments, I’ve decided to get insight enough to write a first-hand review of KodeSurveys. I’ll be signing up soon with KodeSurveys and will as always write a detailed review/analysis of the business outfit itself. Best of luck!

Ayeseteminikan Adewale C: My intentions @ that point in time was to make you feel worthless and I sincerely hope my objective was futile. All I can say is that, the evil me crawls out once in a while when threatened. As always, I’ll try to manage my anger as best as I can. Sorry for the expletives etc. You are also part of the reason why I’ve made up my mind to pay the non-refundable fee of N2,500 ($15) in order to work with KodeSurveys. For this I say thank you.

APOLOGY NUMBER TWO

My second apology goes out to NairaBytes. My review of Web4Africa Webhosting & Domain Name Registration was the bone of contention. He had left comments expressing his feeling of having being defrauded by the company. He finally left a comment on my blog that pissed the owner of Web4Africa so much that he threatened a libel suit against NairaBytes (Oluniyi sorry I had to mention it).

Being no stranger to bloggers being sued for stuff written on their blogs either by them, someone else or their commentators, (Check Out Canadian Model Liskula Cohen Sues & Unveils Blogger, Canadian Model Taking Google to Court, Perez Hilton Unmasked & Perez Hilton: In My Defense, I Don't Actually Write That Crap),  I deleted all comments and trackbacks on the post and prevented new ones from passing through. This angered NairaBytes and prompted his writing this post: 60days till the expiration of www.nairabutes dot com – update3.

NairaBytes:  If you take time out to read the posts above, you’ll know that I’ve decided to stay out of your grudges with Web4Africa cos I know not who’s @ fault in this ugly fiasco. What happens if it’s revealed somewhere along the line, that your comments were made to slander Web4Africa and your claims were bogus? I would be dragged into it as the owner of blog who allegedly helped in the defamation and possible ruin of that business. Worse still, Hostgator could be dragged into the whole mess.

BTW I’m not saying your claims are bogus, I’m just giving a hypothetical situation.

Your suggestion that I delete the whole review on Web4Africa so as to show my neutrality is simply something I cannot do. I ordered for hosting with them and after a while wrote an unbiased review of their services. My opinions were offered on a take it or leave it basis.

Jide Ogunleye was in his own right to say his experience with Utiware was awesome. Mine wasn’t and I made sure to provide evidence to prove that. Evidence which still remains in my inbox should a law suit follow some day.

I apologize for not been able to display your dislike for Web4Africa to the world and for not notifying you before I took down your comments. I hope you both resolve your issues soon ;) .

FINALLY, in addition to my previous comment policy, as from today, all comments deemed as defamatory would be deleted without express consent of the comment author.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your day.

UPDATE: The management of Web4Africa has responded with this post: Libel by NairaBytes.

Yikes, I didn't know that bloggers could be sued. That's quite scary. Bloggers have to have a basic understanding of defamatory laws, then - the line between being defamatory and just expressing your own opinion is small. I am studying Law (4th year) and even I can't remember where the line is between defamatory and non-defamatory comments: what makes something defamatory? I think it is when you say something about another person/company that isn't true and that puts that person/group/company in a bad light. Expressing your own opinion (I think!) is not defamatory, as long as it is clearly just a general opinion (rather than a direct accusation).
